Alternatives to YouTube Kids

The short version
YouTube Kids offers age-filtered video with parental profiles, though reviewers worry about inappropriate content slipping through and limited controls. For free curated streaming, HappyKids and Kidoodle.TV lead with huge libraries. For tighter parental control over actual YouTube, Kids TV and Cocopine let you whitelist channels. PlayKids and Baby Shark World add learning games. Pick by whether you want a safe video library or strict control over YouTube itself.

Parents look for YouTube Kids alternatives when inappropriate videos slip past its filters, they want stricter channel control, or they prefer a fully curated library. YouTube Kids gives kids profiles, content filters, and easy navigation, but reviewers still flag gaps. The picks here share that goal: safe, age-appropriate video for children, with parental controls, time limits, and curated or whitelisted content. Some are independent kid-video libraries, others wrap YouTube with parental controls, and a few add games. We ranked them by embedding similarity to YouTube Kids, then weighed live App Store ratings and review volume, noting which are tiny, paid, or non-US.

Why it's similar
The main YouTube app shares the seed's video source and massive catalog, and is the most-reviewed app here with a 4.67 rating across 47,000,000+ reviews, giving access to every creator YouTube Kids draws from.
How it differs
Regular YouTube has no kid-safe filtering, so it exposes children to all content and ads, the opposite of YouTube Kids's purpose. It is only suitable with heavy parental supervision, making it a poor standalone alternative for young kids.
Why it's similar
HappyKids is a strong free alternative trusted by 16M+ parents, with 100,000+ family-friendly videos spanning CoComelon, PAW Patrol, and popular kid YouTubers, matching YouTube Kids's curated, age-appropriate streaming. Its 60,000+ reviews show wide adoption.
How it differs
HappyKids is ad-supported and offers a fixed curated catalog rather than YouTube Kids's full personalized feed, so kids see less variety overall. Its 4.47 rating is strong but its parental controls are lighter than the seed's profile system.
Why it's similar
PlayKids combines 18,000+ kid videos and cartoons with 150+ learning games and activities in an award-winning, ad-free space, sharing YouTube Kids's safe streaming while adding interactive learning. It is trusted by 70M+ families with 18,000+ reviews.
How it differs
PlayKids leans toward educational games and a curated catalog rather than YouTube Kids's open video feed, and its 4.26 rating trails the seed. Full access requires in-app purchases rather than the seed's free model.
The Pinkfong Company, Inc.
Why it's similar
Baby Shark World offers 12,000+ Pinkfong and Baby Shark songs, videos, and learning games across 25 educational topics in a safe, kid-focused app, sharing YouTube Kids's mix of safe video and early learning for young children.
How it differs
It centers on Pinkfong and Baby Shark content rather than YouTube Kids's broad creator variety, so older kids will find it limited. Its 4.18 rating across 6,042 reviews reflects a narrower, character-driven app with in-app purchases.
Why it's similar
Parental Control App - Kidsee matches YouTube Kids on core function and category fit. Embedding similarity score: 87%.
How it differs
Distinguishes on editorial focus. Rated 4.7 stars across 1.2K reviews.
Why it's similar
KidsBeeTV: Kids Videos & Games matches YouTube Kids on core function and category fit. Embedding similarity score: 87%.
How it differs
Distinguishes on monetization (free download with in-app purchases) and editorial focus. Rated 4.2 stars across 1.7K reviews.
Why it's similar
Kidoodle.TV offers 40,000+ kid-safe episodes including PAW Patrol, SpongeBob, and Blippi, free and ad-supported with no subscription required, sharing YouTube Kids's safe, on-demand streaming for kids of all ages.
How it differs
Kidoodle uses a fixed curated library rather than YouTube's full creator pool, so popular individual YouTubers may be missing. Its 4.11 rating across just 409 reviews reflects a smaller app, and full features involve in-app purchases.
Why it's similar
Kidjo TV provides a safe, ad-free experience for kids aged two to seven with smart cartoons, tutorials, no public profiles, screen-time limits, and customizable settings, closely matching YouTube Kids's controlled, age-appropriate design.
How it differs
Kidjo uses a curated edutainment library rather than YouTube's full catalog, so the variety is smaller. It has no ratings on record here, making its reliability unproven against the established seed.
Why it's similar
Cocopine gives parents full control over what kids watch on YouTube, blocking endless mindless or age-inappropriate videos and Shorts while keeping quality content, directly answering YouTube Kids users frustrated by the algorithm. Its 4.74 rating is the highest in this group.
How it differs
Cocopine is a paid control layer over YouTube with just 23 ratings, so it is small and unproven, and safety depends on parent setup. It curates from YouTube rather than offering YouTube Kids's own filtered catalog.
Why it's similar
ABC Kids offers safe, commercial-free curated programming for preschool and younger school-aged children, sharing YouTube Kids's trusted, ad-free goal of education and entertainment.
How it differs
ABC Kids is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's app, so its catalog and availability are Australia-focused and irrelevant for US families. With no App Store ratings here, it is region-specific rather than a US YouTube Kids alternative.
See how YouTube Kids and these apps ranked on past days with the free App Store rank history tool.
Every app in our database carries a dense vector embedding derived from its title, subtitle, full description, and category metadata. To find apps similar to YouTube Kids, we compute cosine distance against every other app and keep the closest 30. The similarity score shown on each pick is 1 - distance/2 clamped to [0,1] — 100% means the embedding spaces are identical, 0% means orthogonal.
Apps from YouTube Kids's own developer are left out. The 10 most similar of the rest are ordered by App Store rating times the logarithm of their rating count, so a 4.8-star app with 100,000 ratings ranks above a 4.5-star app with 200 ratings.
The similar-app list was computed on May 25, 2026. Ratings are the latest US App Store fetch for each app, taken between October 31, 2026 and November 6, 2026. Prices and update dates come from Apple when the page is built.
