Users see an example of the alerts they’re signing up for.
Hi app founders, designers, and marketers,
ATC lets users listen to live air traffic control at US airports and follow the conversations through AI transcripts. Eight months after launch, it generates $200K MRR and holds a 4.7 rating across 3.8K reviews.
Its notification request is one of the details we’re looking at this week.
Familiar icons during onboarding
When ATC asks where users heard about it, it shows the icons for Instagram and TikTok alongside the other options.
Users tap the app they recognise to continue. The icons make the choices easy to identify at a glance.
Show an actual notification
ATC displays an example alert at the top of the screen, then presents the iOS permission request.
The message previews the kind of aviation event users could hear about through the app. They can read it and decide whether those updates interest them while the permission request is still in front of them.
Do You Know What You're Up Against?
You can watch an app climb the App Store chart, see the download spike, and the revenue jump…
But there’s a whole growth engine behind those numbers that you’re not seeing.
The content driving people to the app.
That’s what Social Growth Engineers tracks.
Every day, they monitor what consumer apps are doing on TikTok and Instagram to find:
All accounts promoting the app on TikTok and Instagram Reels
Hooks generating millions of views
Formats worth repeating and scaling
Daily trends worth hopping into
Distribution strategies that turn content into downloads
All broken down in an easy-to-follow way you can use for your own app.
We tell you which apps are taking off, Social Growth Engineers shows you how they’re getting attention.
They’re literally the distribution intelligence layer to our App Store data.
An example notification explains what users can expect to receive on their phones. For ATC, that means showing the kind of alert that would bring someone back to listen.
Tip #9: Show users a sample notification so they can see what they’re agreeing to receive.
